Black Rat Projects "Printmaking Today" 10th Feb
Black Rat Projects is delighted to announce that our first show of 2011 will continue our annual tradition of an exhibition devoted to the edition. In Printmaking Today we will be exhibiting prints we have published from our represented artists alongside key works by other artists in the first decade of the 21st century. The show will include works by Peter Blake, Banksy, Tracey Emin, D*face, Damien Hirst, Nick Walker, Grayson Perry, Know Hope, Shepard Fairey and Bridget Riley. In addition to this we have been working on a number of new prints to be released on the preview evening. These include special editions by Matt Small, Swoon, Brian Douglas and Candice Tripp.

$1Bn 'Streets Of Monaco' Floating City

A Lavish new yacht, designed by Yacht Island Design, recreating the billionaire's playground of Monaco is set to become the world's most expensive.
The staggering 155m Streets of Monaco yacht is expected to cost over $1.1 billion to build and is modelled on a section of Monte Carlo.
Currently in the design stage, the super-ship will feature smaller versions of the state’s famous landmarks such as the Monte Carlo Casino and racetrack, as well as swimming pools, tennis courts, a cinema, a go kart track and a Hotel de Paris.

Instead of traditional decks the one-of-a-kind ship will have buildings, and instead of a swimming platform it will have a beach. Travellers will also spot waterfalls, a swim-in Jacuzzi-bar, helicopters and submarines on board.

The one-of a kind ship could be home to 16 guests and 70 crew with the main apartment spread over three floors and 445 sq m.

The Zero Dollar Show

In contrast to its location inside an internationally financed mall and entertainment complex - Melbourne Central - The Zero Dollar Show cost nothing.....zero.

The field of art has a special relationship with the notion of theft. Famous art heists! Copyright infringement! And so to build upon this special relationship, 18 artists make up The Zero Dollar Show and each piece of art cost zero dollars to make. They found, they stole, and they exchanged favours for transport.

A Simulated Trip To Mars

From 3 June, the Mars 500 project will send a "crew" of six on a simulated 520-day round trip to the Red Planet and back.
The cosmonauts - three Russians, a Chinese, a Frenchman and an Italian - will live and work as interplanetary travellers, spending eight hours a day working on maintenance and scientific experiments, eight hours at leisure and eight hours sleeping.

Organisers at the European Space Agency and Russia's Institute of Biomedical Problems hope that the project will offer an insight into how such a mission would function. But above all, the most significant assessment they will make will be how it affects the subjects psychologically.

Any communication between the crew and mission control will be subject to 20-minute delay to simulate the time it would take for signals to reach Earth. Meanwhile, cameras will monitor them 24 hours a day.
With no access to telephones, internet or natural light, breathing only recycled air and showering once every 10 days, the men are certain to have both their individual mental states and group dynamics tested to the limits in the 550-cubic-metre simulator.

Winscape Concept

Winscape, a combination of two 46-inch Panasonic TC-P4610 plasma screens, a Mac, a Wii remote, a custom-built IR-emitting necklace, and an iPhone app, creates a panorama through two virtual "windows" displaying "live" scenes in 1080p video and sound. The system tracks the necklace's movements in relation to the window, mimicking a realistic view out of the window. A stunning concept at the least (no more looking out on a dingy alleyway!), and it can be yours for the low price of $3,000.

London's New Bus

So, this is a glimpse of London's new Routemaster bus. It looks pretty nice, and it would be good to have an updated version of the iconic bus design. With money being a bit tight at the moment and the mayor wanting them on the streets by 2012, I think it's a bit of a stretch.

Facade Printer

For all you fire extinguisher fans, why not take the next step up with this sweet, sweet facade printer. It's like 'sniper art'. Damn, you could be hidden in some bush and painting the side of some building and no-one would know what was going on! I want one!

Facade Printer is a software controlled inkjet printer that creates images on an architectural scale. developed by german product designers Martin Fussenegger, Michael Haas and engineer Julian Adenauer. The system 'prints' images by shooting individual dots from a distanced position varying from 5 meters to 20 feet. 'Facade Printer' features a two axis turn table and an air pressure printhead.

A ball tower conveys the gelatine encapsulated colour balls to the marker. Here they are accelerated to a speed of 200km/h and finally burst on contact with the wall, leaving their coloured contents. a coloured dot of 5 to 10 cm diameter occurs on the wall.
The busted gelatine shell falls down to the ground where it can be removed, or left to decompose naturally by the rain without residue. the colour qualities differ from eachother gravely considering UV stability or dripping characteristics. thus, colours can either bleach out within a few hours or remains visible for several months.
