Million Dollar Comic (Part 2)

Less than a week after an Action Comics #1 set the world record for the highest price ever paid on a comic, a 1939 Detective Comics #27 in which Batman makes his debut has sold at auction for US$1,075,500, breaking the record again! The copy has a quality grade of 8, same as the Action Comics #1.

Million Dollar Comic

A copy of the first comic to feature Superman has been sold on the internet for a record breaking US$1 million (£646,000).
The 1938 edition of Action Comics No 1 - which originally sold for 10 cents - was snapped up within minutes of the issue being put on sale. The sale smashes the previous record price for a comic book of US$317,200 (£205,000) in 2009, which was also a copy of Action Comics #1. It was in poorer condition however, with a quality grade of 6 - Fine.
The copy sold yesterday has a grade of 8.0 - Very Fine, of which there are only two in the world.

Johnny Hicklenton

Last night, I watched an incredible documentary entitled, "Here's Johnny" on More4 about the life and times of the super talented artist, Johnny Hicklenton. It chronicles the past 7 years of his life as he has been a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer since 2000. Watching this incredible artist struggle and come to terms with the disease, whilst still drawing 10-12 hours per day was a truly inspiring and touching piece of cinematography. He is best known for his artwork during the 90's of Britain's 2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine. (In my opinion, he is definitely one of the best British illustrative talents ever)
What is also amazing, is the fact that he continues to focus on bringing multiple sclerosis as a disease to the public's attention in order to help it's sufferers fight for better treatment and research from the medical community. Long live Johnny and his truly inspiring story!

Tatsuyuki Tanaka - Cannabis Works

Tatsuyuki Tanaka has been around for ages, (he even worked on the computer graphics for the original Akira anime) and yet, little is known about his works. I bought this amazing hardback book, entitled 'Cannabis Works' whilst living in Japan, 4 years ago and I still pick it up to this day and can re-immerse myself into his amazing illustrations. Apparently, the style of drawing is known as 'Superflat'.




Superflat is a postmodern art movement, founded by the artist Takashi Murakami, which is influenced by manga and anime. It is also the name of a 2001 art exhibition, curated by Murakami, that toured West Hollywood, Minneapolis and Seattle.


The term is used by Murakami to refer to various flattened forms in Japanese graphic art, animation, pop culture and fine arts, as well as the "shallow emptiness of Japanese consumer culture."


A self-proclaimed art movement, it was a successful piece of niche marketing, a branded art phenomenon designed for Western audiences.

If Dogs Could Talk

This is a response to PH's Mittens post from ealier today.....Made me laugh when I opened my inbox this morning!

Mittens

I used to be a BIG anti-cat person until I had to live with two of them and slowly found that they aren't so bad, they are still no where near as cool as dogs obviously but, oh well... 

In Australia , cats aren't so popular generally.. they stray from home, go feral and eat a lot of rare native birds which pisses people off. Many people have no problem shooting a cat that has strayed onto their property. . on occasion, the Australian army have have been used to shoot cats in the Aussie bush which have gone feral... which, would probably be a better way to go then poor Mittens here.

I think everyone's seen the work that Banksy and JR have done in Palestine, so I went looking for other artists.
