I have been looking for a new inspirational graffiti site for a while now and I saw this really great one on the Ektopia blog. "The Exchange"; The concept is simple enough; famous writers draw their own version/style of another writer's name. For example, my fave writer Totem2 drew the word "Sever" and the artist Sever had to try and paint his own name in Totem's style.
This was Totem's interpretation of Sever
This was Sever painting his name in a Totem-style
Ewok's sketch of "Revok"
Revok's own piece in an Ewok-style.
This was what the website had to say about the concept:
"The Exchange was started in 2005, with six participants from different areas of the United States. The group is currently made up of 12 members from North America and Europe. The participants of The Exchange pair off into six groups of two, trading names and personal styles through sketches. This step is repeated until everyone in the group has traded outlines at least once.
The sketches are drawn, scanned, and traded via email. They are then printed out and executed bythe receiving artist in their particular city.
The objective is to create an awareness of distinct lettering styles and trends. The goal is for all in the group to be able to become more versatile through attempts at graffiti styles out of their personal comfort zone. The artists in the group may learn new techniques and compositions from the exchange."
Once again, many thanks to Ektopia for this and his wicked site!
